Styles and complementary shoots in Wedding Photography

Updated: Oct 20, 2023

There are many different types of wedding photography styles and complementary shoots that a photographer can offer to capture different aspects of a couple's wedding day. Some common options include:

  1. Engagement Shoot: This is a pre-wedding photoshoot of the couple that is typically done in a different location from the wedding venue. It's a great way to get comfortable with your photographer and create some beautiful images to use for your save-the-dates or wedding website.

  2. Bridal Portrait Session: This is a solo photoshoot of the bride in her wedding gown, often done a few weeks before the wedding. It allows for more creative and artistic shots of the bride in her dress without the time constraints of the wedding day.

  3. Trash the Dress: This is a post-wedding photoshoot where the bride (and sometimes the groom) wear their wedding attire in a non-traditional setting, such as in the water or in an urban setting. It allows for more adventurous and unique photos that wouldn't be possible on the wedding day.

  4. Boudoir Shoot: This is a more intimate photoshoot of the bride (or groom) in lingerie or less clothing, often done as a gift for their partner. It can be a fun and empowering experience for the bride (or groom) and create some beautiful images.

  5. Day-After Shoot: This is a photoshoot that takes place the day after the wedding, typically in a more relaxed setting. It allows for some additional photos of the couple in their wedding attire without the stress and time constraints of the wedding day.

  6. Family Portrait Session: This is a photoshoot of the couple and their families either before or after the wedding. It allows for some beautiful family portraits that can be cherished for years to come.

Ultimately, the type of complementary wedding photography that a couple chooses will depend on their personal style and preferences, as well as their budget and the availability of their photographer.
